Denial
By Scott Eck
In the dawn of the morning
Who couldn't see,
The signs and their warning?
Is it just me?
Meaningless stare through smoke-filled air
Happiness rare. You're mostly just there.
You awake and she's there:
An encouraging sign,
Unless it's blank-nothing
That resides in her eyes.
Meaningless stare through bed-mussed hair
Happiness rare. You're mostly just there.
Down to the living room,
Where the T.V. awaits
It numbs and makes you blind
To the plans of the fates
Stupfied stare through electrified air
Lucidity rare. You're mostly just there.
Time alone with your thoughts:
They echo through an empty home.
Scent of flavored coffee
Drifts out a lonely door.
Meaningless stare through orange-mint air
Happiness rare. You're mostly just there.
